Day 1- Arrive in Addis Ababa and be met by our team and transferred to your hotel, overnight at hotel.
Day 2- Drive to Awash national park passing the town of Debrezyet, afternoon game drive in Awash national park and view of the fall, overnight lodge/ hotel
Day 3- Drive to Logia Today, we drive through the Rift Valley into the Afar triangle, slowly loosing elevation. The landscape changes from savannah to steppe and half-desert, interrupted by oases from the Awash River, Overnight at hotel.
Day 4- Morning after escort the local guide start to The trip to Afdera leads through rugged landscapes, characterized by volcanic rifts and faults, young black lava flows and gravel desert. After about 4—5 hours drive, we reach the flat, salt-covered Danakil depression at the salty lake Afdera. There will be time to visit Afdera, where pure salt is being produced, overnight at local hotel/ camping
Day 5- Drive to Dodom village (base of Ertale), After breakfast, we pick up Afar policemen and an Afar guide, then drive though the flat salt and lava desert to the Afar village of Dodom and set up camp at the base of Ertale. After early dinner start trek to Ertale volcano edge we enjoy a magical night and admire
Day 6- Descend from Ertale After early sunrise at the spectacular lava lake, we break down our camp and using the camels again, we return to the point of departure where the vehicles are waiting and drive to Hamedela, In the afternoon and evening we can watch the endless camel caravans coming and going: they arrive empty and leave packed full with precious salt blocks, Overnight camping.
Day 7- A full day will be available to explore the fascinating volcano of Dallol - a volcano hidden under a kilometer thick deposit of salt. The volcano marks its presence by the doming up of the salt and hundreds of fumaroles and hot springs in all colors, overnight camping
Day 8- Salt caravans - salt cutting and loading - transfer to the highlands in the morning, we watch the thousands of camels leaving for the salt cutting area. We then drive to the lake and watch the salt cutters and salt shapers at work, following a century old established order. By the time we leave in the late morning, the first camels are being loaded and the cycle is repeated.
We continue our drive and leave the desert. In the late afternoon, we should already be back on the highland plateau where we stay the night in a small town, and enjoy cold drink, overnight at hotel.
Day 9- Morning drive to Mekele on the way make an excursion to Geralta to visit the rock churches of Tigray, Overnight at hotel
Day 10- This day fly back to Addis Ababa. Afternoon city tour we visit historical sites in Addis Ababa including the National Archaeological Museum, where we will view the 3.6 million year old remains of “Lucy”, whose skeletal remains when discovered in 1974. You will also visit the Ethnological Museum at Addis Ababa University, Holy Trinity Cathedrals and Mount Entoto which rises up to an altitude of 3200 meters and offers a panoramic view of the metropolis, after traditional dinner transfer to air port for departure.
